Hot
Humid
Still
The day waits
With growing
Tension
On the horizon
Dark clouds gather
Frogs croak
Birds disappear
Ominous rumbling
Soft and distant
A breeze picks up
Flicking hair
As I look
To the west
Above
Blue sky
Slowly retreating
As clouds near
It moves quickly
Advancing visibly
The sky darkens
Lightning flickers
Illuminating thunderheads
From within
Thunder follows
Louder and quicker
I count seconds
Fewer each time
Wind whips about me
Sucked in by the storm
I stand and watch
Pulse quickening
Until fat raindrops
Fall haphazardly
Becoming closer
I get wetter
And soon move
Under cover
Lightning brightens the land
Dark before night
Rain beats down
Wind curls trees
Thunder cracks and roars
I fear
Yet am entranced
Then it ends
Leaves drip
Soft rumbles
The world looks green
Birds return
Coolness
Until tomorrow
